Home Staging
All of us have a special gift or talent, mine is the art of interior decorating and design. Art classes were always my favorite in school and I won several awards during competitions. Also, as a kid, my favorite thing to do was to paint, repaint, decorate and redecorate my room as well as other rooms in the house. When entering college, I really wanted to get a degree in interior design but being from a middle class, practical family, I chose accounting. I actually enjoyed my accounting career and worked in the corporate world for 22 years. While in the corporate world, I was always told that I should be in sales, so with my love of houses, people and decorating, I decided to get my real estate license. To be considered a serious designer, you must have a degree in design along with your ASID. Real estate was a quicker profession to get up and running and I felt that many of my talents could be utilized with this new career. Also, before getting into real estate, I decorated a lot my family and friend’s houses, rehabbed and staged homes, bought and sold many homes for ourselves in order to use my love of design. After getting into real estate, I helped many of my clients to get their homes ready for the market, for which I did not charge a fee. However, due to the cost of staging and the amount of time needed to go into a project, I must now charge for my services.
After leaving the corporate world, in Jacksonville, Florida, I was recruited by Ethan Allen to work at their store and then later an ASID Designer offered me a position to work in her new company, Renaissance Interiors. I enjoyed the design profession very much but the real estate market was red hot and since I had already gotten my license, I decided to list and sell homes in the upscale community of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and other areas of Jacksonville. With the real estate services, I also offered to provide staging and redesign for my clients. Since staging was a very new concept to real estate, my clients were receptive to the idea but didn’t understand the need to pay for the service, after all, art should be a labor of love, right? Fast forward 16 years, with HGTV educating the public as to the advantages of staging, more people are willing to pay for the service – it really makes a difference in the sale of a home.
Since moving to St. Louis, I have worked with several clients to redecorate their multimillion dollar homes and have rehabbed and decorated 3 personal homes in Clayton, downtown, and the Central West End. In addition, I have purchased, rehabbed and staged 12 smaller homes in St. Louis, Chicago and New York for which I have sold for a profit.
With rehabbing and staging, I am using my love for decorating, construction, business and selling to still earn an income turning my hobby into a business. I have a crew of experienced and reasonably priced carpenters, roofers, plumbers, electricians, painters, house keepers and handymen, along with my decorating skills; we can make your home stunning and more sellable with less time on the market and usually at a higher price.
In summary, I have the talent, experience, knowledge and the construction crew, and in the process of getting a certificate from a home staging school showing that I am indeed qualified to stage or redecorate your home. There are many ways to pay for this service and I will provide you with a price list upon your inquiry. I will be posting photos of homes that I have decorated, please look for those.
A beautiful home, no matter the size, makes people feel good and emotions will sell a house. You only have seconds to create a good first impression; I can help you capture that buyer's favorable impression with staging and redesign!
